Definitely one of the stranger gigs we've played. No audience in the traditional beer-on-the-stage sense. The 'audience' in this case were thousands of people walking around the track at the Camrose high school. Each was a member of a team who had raised sponsorship funds based on how many laps they completed. By the end of the event, Relay had raised over $200,000 for cancer research. That made up for us being tongue-tied in front of a family audience where our barroom humour just doesn't work.
The organizers took a bit of a risk with us, because we aren't like the somewhat tamer country acts they usually hire, but our mission was to keep people waking into the wee hours and our report card from the organizers said "...I have heard nothing but positive comments about all the entertainment. Thank you guys for coming. I know you gave us a great deal and played way longer than we initially agreed to... I loved your performance and again I am very grateful for your contribution to Relay!"
Glad we could help.
